Helpful tidbits for parents and entrepreneurs
Meet Tami Lindahl. Tami is a Certified Personal Trainer and Lifestyle Coach. She owns her own fitness center and is the author of How to Lose Weight Without Being on a Diet, for Women. Read Tami's story and the new and different approach she takes to make fitness easy for all of her clients. You can visit her site at Free Trainer Tips.
1. Tell us about your business and the service that you provide:
I provide fitness and weight loss solutions for women who want to lose weight, feel great, have more energy, and fit into their skinny jeans again! The weight loss coaching is done by phone so it's convenient, cost effective and it really works. You will discover how to eat without being on a diet and how to rev up your metabolism without pills or 'miracle' juices. This is both for men and women. I also offer in-home personal training (Santa Clarita only) and I bring most equipment and track your success. No embarrassing gym workouts...typically for women.
2. How did you decide to get started?
I taught the weight loss program in my gym (which I no longer have), but the information is very good, so I share it by phone. My clients can participate in a group setting without leaving their home or office.
3. What kind of background or expertise do you have in your field?
I have been in the fitness industry for nine years. I started at the senior center, worked in traditional gyms, and ran a 'Fit Kids' program. I eventually opened up my own gym called Club 50 Fitness in Newhall.
4. What trends do you see in your current industry?
Well, I think this phone coaching may very well catch on. It's cost effective for me and I can pass that on to my clients. We are all so busy these days working twice as much for half the pay, so the more we can do by phone, the better. This allows people to stay home with their kids and still participate or jump on a call between meetings.
5. What things do you find to be most demanding about your job?
Marketing and business promotion. I have an awesome program that I know has worked for me and my clients, but it's hard to get that across. There are so many 'weight loss' gimmicks and other programs out there.
6. What do you find to be the most rewarding about your job and day to day routine?
When they 'get it'...my typical client comes in with excuses on why they can't eat the right foods or work out, but when they start to get it and then they learn to love it and really see the rewards...priceless!
7. What are you most proud of as a parent-preneur?
Working from home I can schedule my calls so I can go to my kids events...nice. I also fell like a good example to them by putting my efforts in and seeing the rewards.
8. How have you been able to manage your time between work and family?
I like that I can put a healthy dinner together and go right back to my office if I need to finish something.
9. What has been the most effective way for you to promote yourself?
Good question, still working on that. I would have to say personal relationships. Getting out and talking to people.
Finally: What does your "Milk Money" provide for you and your family?
My son is on the West Ranch swim team, and my daughter has been a cheerleader (wow, that was expensive!). They are both looking to continue their education after high school. My son wants to be a helicopter pilot and my daughter is going for her teaching degree at COC.
