Helpful tidbits for parents and entrepreneurs

April Member Spotlight - Danny Villar

Hello Everyone.

I first would like to thank Milk Money for this website. What a great way to share our lives in this wonderful diverse community of parents.  My name is Danny and a proud parent of our darling little Angel Kira Skylar. She just turned 1 year old this past January. How time truly flies. We hope to be a support to this website and watch our community grow. Thank you Milk Money!

1. Tell us about your business and the service that you provide:

My business is a very small home based business. It started at the beginning of 2009. Like any other business, I had a great idea :) I thought by creating a custom protective case to secure your Bluetooth hands free devices, it will not only protect those sometimes pricey ear pieces, but also keep it from getting lost. Which I am ashamed to say I’ve probably lost or damaged about 4 Bluetooth devices. So my idea was to create a cushioned protective holder just like a cellphone case. It also has easy access when needed and not always stationed in your ear which gets really uncomfortable. So here it is. Something new in the market and something to share with you, the consumer!

2. How did you decide to get started?

After losing & damaging 4 Bluetooth devices it hit my wallet time and time again. Also having the Bluetooth device in my ear all day got really uncomfortable. So one day I had an idea. Why not have the same easy access like a cellphone has and have protection. From there it was the beginning of www.smileycases.com.

3. What kind of background of expertise do you have in your field?

I’ve never had any experience with sales before. Buying products from consumers is my only expertise. One thing I expect is quality customer service. Good quality products at a fair price.

4. What trends do you see in your current industry?

Well, since technology continues to grow at such a rapid pace, many companies are creating these BLUETOOTH devices for your ear. In my state of California it has become a mandatory law which has been also implemented in many other states called  "HANDS-FREE" law. In turn, the consumer will need something to keep these devices secure and protected. I hope to see these Bluetooth Cases everywhere like we see cellphone cases.

5. What things do you find to be most demanding about your job?

Nothing demanding at all. My job is simple, Quality customer service & Providing good products at an affordable price.

6. What do you find to be the most rewarding about your job and your day to day routine?

Sharing my products with the consumer and seeing the joy that it gives. Something NEW is very exciting and being one of the leading pioneers in a new industry is a challenge & reward.

7. What advice would you give to someone else who is interested in starting a business like yours?

First of all, you need to have a PLAN and PASSION in whatever venture you are taking on. Hard work, commitment & patience are the basic tools you will need to succeed. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!

8. What are you most proud of as a parent-preneur?

Seeing others parents just like me enjoy what we do and enjoy the rewards it gives to our families.

9. How have you been able to manage your time between work and your family?

In the beginning stages I will say it was the hardest. Setting your foundation correctly is essential in the growth of your business. I'm sure every parent can relate to having that little girl wanting all of her Daddy's time for herself only. So remember parent-preneurs, families first! Kira can tell you that also :)

10. What has been the most effective way for you to promote yourself?

Promoting mysel has been really hard. Getting the traffic & exposure out to the public has been quite a challenge. Having your own website does not mean sales. They first need to find you. Doing your homework like promoting yourself on eBay or Google is a start. You  also need to blog or join forums which you can share your ideas & products.

Finally: What does your “Milk Money” provide for you and your family?

Milk Money is such a great way to join a great community of parents that are facing the same struggles in such a very demanding world. We get so occupied with having an abundance of work, worrying about our bosses, and feeling unappreciated as time continues to pass us by. We forget what really matters in the end is FAMILY. Quality time enjoying the simple things like hearing,” Daddy can you play? Can you hold my hand? Can you put me to sleep?” The answer now is "YES" I can! I love you Kira!

Thank you again MILK MONEY for giving this Dad the opportunity to share my simple life with you my community!

Come Visit us so we can grow together!

Sincerely,

Danny T. Villar
