Helpful tidbits for parents and entrepreneurs
Meet Rebecca Buscemi! She founded The Savvy Women's Business Solution. She focuses on providing social media strategies and virtual assistance to mom entrepreneurs and women in business. Continue reading to learn about the trends she sees in her business as well as the hard lesson she had to learn to be successful.
1. Tell us about your business and the service that you provide.
TheSavvy Women's Business Solution is dedicated to all things social media related to mom entrepreneurs and women in business. I help professional women:
- create clear cut media strategies
- understand how to create a personable yet professional appearance across all social media platforms
- find ways to automate and streamline a personalized daily social media strategy
- and so much more!
I provide a partnership, providing not only media support, but administrative support, marketing ideas and focus for your business. All of these solutions are provided for you so you can focus less on your business and more on your family and your life!
2. How did you decide to get started?
After the birth of my first child, I left a job I loved as a Therapy Center Specialist at a pediatric hospital to stay at home with my family. After a difficult pregnancy with my second child, I was put on bed rest. Bed rest only magnified my desire to re-connect with my professional life. At that moment, I decided to investigate how I could create a business that would be satisfying to my hunger for the professional world that I craved, create some residual income, but also allowed me to stay close to my family.
In July 2008 I built my first business, Creative Virtual Office. Creative Virtual Office provided administrative support to non-profits, health care and education professionals. As my company grew I began to attract different types of clients, mom entrepreneurs and women in business. With the experiences I was gaining through my first company, I was beginning to see what I truly wanted to focus my business, my clients and my life on.
In February 2010, I closed the doors of Creative Virtual Office and opened The Savvy Women's Business Solution. The Savvy Women's Business Solution focuses on specializing in providing social media strategies and virtual assistance to mom entrepreneurs and women in business. The Savvy Women's Business Solution has brought online publicity to many mom entrepreneurs and women in business all over the United States and Canada. My passion is creating solutions for established professionals and businesses who are ready to take things to the next level.
3. What kind of background or expertise do you have in your field?
My background is actually in education. I have a Bachelors in Early Childhood Leadership. When I was working out of the house, I found what I really enjoyed doing was providing the back end administrative support to education professionals. I loved working with children, but I found that often times so many things didn't get done if there wasn't a strong administratie piece in place. I am now currently pursuing a Masters in Internet Marketing to further gain experience in the social media marketing field.
4. What trends do you see in your current industry?
Many virtual assistants are now not only using social media marketing to promote their own businesses, but also their clients. There are also so many new social networks that are popping up all over the place. I've seen a huge influx over the past week on social networks that you have to pay to be a part of. I personally say stick with the free! Facebook and Twitter are two huge ways to market your business and you don't have to pay a dime. Google has done a lot over the last two weeks in regards to their own launching of social media and networking.
5. What things do you find to be the most demanding about your job?
Finding a balance between my children, my husband, my home and finally, my business. After a lot of soul searching this winter, I finally broke down and hired a business coach to help me find focus. It was the best thing I ever did for my business and my family. I created an ideal schedule that I love. Now my new struggle is sticking with it because it involves an early bed time that I'm not a fan of!
6. What do you find the most rewarding about your job and your day to day routine?
I love all the people that I meet through networking. For some reason, social networking brings us al down to the same level (or at least it should). I always try my hardest to honor the people that tweet me or contact me through Facebook and other social media networks. You never know where your next joint venture is coming from! I love that I can work anywhere! My sofa, my bed, my office or even Panera if I wanted to!
7. What advice would give to someone else who is interested in starting a business like yours?
My biggest piece of advice is have a support system in place. When I say support system, I mean a bunch of different things. One is daycare or a nanny for your children. It's not fair to your children to have your laptop in front of you all day, everyday (I learned this lesson and it was a hard one to learn.) Make sure your significant other is on board. You will need him to respect your business and you as a business owner; not as a hobby! Find some sort of support group for mom entrepreneurs. One of my favorites is: http://supportgroup.themomentrepreneur.com . And know when to ask for help!
8. What are you most proud of as a parent-preneur?
That I finally gained my family's buy-in. I think they finally respect me as a business owner!
9. How have you been able to manage your time between work and your family?
I rely heavily on Google calendar and my planner. I also only work when my kids are in daycare or when the nanny is here. I use a system called Time Driver to schedule all of my appointments.
10. What has been the most effective way for you to promote yourself?
I use as many free resources that are out there! I use Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites. I do a ton of social networking on all of these sites to try to help others as much as I can! My clients are also fabulous with referring me to others! Just recently I have started to pay to join some networks, but only if they support other family owned businesses or put me directly in front of my target market.
Finally: What does your "Milk Money" provide for you and your family?
A super smart four year old who keeps me on my toes and a beautiful spunky one year old who makes everday an adventure!
